Migrating to Thunderbird

Iīve been using Eudora for email since 1997 - now that they have decided to drop support for it - I guess itīs time to switch to Thunderbird...

My email is currently importing into Thunderbird as I type this. When I say I have been using Eudora since 1997 - I should make clear that means that I have kept every single message I have sent since 1997 and almost all of the ones I have received as well. Call me a digital pack rat - but itīs come in handy more then once.

That said there are well of 100 thousand messages currently being imported into Thunderbird and that after running things through Eudora Rescue to clean up the messages and prep them for the conversion. The process has taken About 2.5 hours so far and the final import stage is About 1/3 done from what I can tell.

Why today? well, Kellei lost her inbox yesterday because of a disagreement between Eudora and Symantic Anti-virus - something Iīve had happen to me once as well - that prompted a conversion for her system and I figured I might as well bite the bullet and do the same. Iīve been trialing Thunderbird for About 2 months now using one of my many email addresses on a separate computer - Iīve had no issues and been very impressed with the UI and speed - plus the much better handling of HTML email then Eudora.

So after well over a decade the switch is upon me - Iīll keep my fingers crossed that the import makes it through all the way to 100% and weīll see how the well the junk filters work :)
