R.I.P. Mr. Carlin

George Carlin
George Carlin
One of my favorite comedians has passed away. While he is well known for his sometimes unpredictable performances and for pushing boundaries - my favorite aspect of his humour was always his intelligent look at English grammar and the idiosyncrasies of our society.

The quote Take a look at the average person and consider how stupid they are, then realize that means half of em are stupider then that! ranks as an all time favorite.

I spent several long months working 18 hour days in a room with 2 other people doing mindless data entry work and cleanup from a massive telecom data conversion and had we not had Mr. Carlin to keep us company, it is doubtful we would have survived the ordeal.

In life it is, I think, a good vocation to bring humour and make people laugh. When that can be done and at the same time try to effect some positive change by encouraging us to look at our idiosyncrasies, and the failings of our society - and identify the folly in them is even better.

Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations. When you have to wait a year to sleep next to a tree, something is wrong.

Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?

As soon as someone is identified as an unsung hero, he no longer is.

Isnīt it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do “practice”?

In America, anyone can become president. Thatīs the problem.

Cloud nine gets all the publicity, but cloud eight actually is cheaper, less crowded, and has a better view.

“No comment” is a comment.

So far, this is the oldest Iīve been.
