The printer knows
I recently printed out a Service Overview from my printer and was very surprised to learn all that the thing was tracking silently in the background... For example, I know know that since it was purchased the paper trey has been removed 83 times! The 9 page report that details everything from the number of pixels printed using Cyan ink, to a complete history of paper jams (2 over 2 years) to the number of ink pellets used really took me Aback. I knew most all printers count pages and impressions - even some that track ink coverage - but the depth of this report was staggering!
From a business point of view itīs great. I know exactly how many pages were printed, using how much ink, over how many hours (with a breakdown of page quality, paper type, size, and coverage)
So we venture forth knowing our average page print count per day, with day of week breakdown and duplex vs single page use averages by week - and boldly print on while the little counters inside our printer continue to make their tally.
PS: in case you were wondering - itīs a Xerox 8550 printer (which I completely recommend)
