SEN - Limited
Kellei and I just got Back from 5 days of Simulated Electronic Navigation (SEN) training at Camosen College in Victoria as part of the CCGA-P Simulator Project. Unexpectedly Wyatt got to audit the Course as well.Itīs not every day that any dog gets formal Navigation training - but I suppose with our lives and knowing Wyatt we shouldnīt have been too surprised.
The Course was amazing - a real eye opener and made even better because the instructor packed in even more then normal, extending the Course time by a half hour ever day to cater more to the special needs of the CCGA. We learned About RADAR plotting and developed several ways to accomplish equivalents of relative motion vector analysis on our small vessel radars without actually a maneuvering Board. Now, for those of you that donīt know what a maneuvering Board actually is - all I can suggest is that you grab a good book on RADAR and plan to spend About 3 or 4 days trying to wrap your Head around it. In short it allows you to plot RADAR targets and plan out what will happen over time, if a risk of collision exists, and how to avoid it.
The concepts are critical to mariners and I was quite surprised tat I got through the entire 60 ton master certification process having never taken (nor being required to) take this Course! Thankfully we have it now and have already started work along with the rest of the CCGA-P simulator team to look at ways to deliver a subset of this material to the rest of the auxiliary.
