Hank

1. Metal hooks used to Secure a Sail to a Stay; to Hank on a Sail is to hook it on a Stay using the hanks.
2. A small ring or hoop of metal by which the Luff of a Jib or staysail is bent to the stays of a sailing vessel.

Modern hanks are usually spring loaded so that they can be slipped on or off the stays easily.

3. A small piece of Line or twine used for such things as whipping, seizing or other miscelanious small jobs.
