Wanted:Nautical Resources for Novel
I'm a writer based in Post Falls, ID, and I'd like to know if any of you users know of a good resource or resources that I might make use of. The story I'm planning heavily leans upon 1800's sailing terminology, technical details, and just basic knowledge of how a sailing ship works. I'm afraid I'm terribly lost, and this seems a reliable place to find help.
Thank you!

I'd start with the Oxford Companion to ships and the sea - it's the nautical dictionary in some respects.

You might also want to look at the Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor and Marlinspike Sailor.

Now all those are quite technical so if you need a more simple start the terms compendium created for the Patrick O'Brian books "A Sea of Words" is also a great one.

If you have specific terms causing problems - feel free to ask here as well.
