Power Failures, Wind Storms, and Forest Fires

Some days are mundane, yesterday was anything but. It started in the morning with an unseasonable wind storm - gusting About 40kn plus all morning. Then, for obvious reasons the power flickered off rendering my work day basically over. On going outside to find something "powerless" to do, I first sighted the water bombers descending over Sechelt...

The wind and power failures we are used to, and my new batter backup performed very well - throughout the day there were About 5 separate power fails (felt a bit like someone was playing with the light switch) for the first few I did my normal routing running around the house gracefully shutting down servers etc... but by fail 3 or so I just left everything off to give the UPS batteries a rest.

But the Forest Fire (Brush Fire?) was the most unusual part of the day. One sees images of water bombers dropping their red retardant load in video and photos but, and for the most part thankfully, one rarely sees it less then a mile from their home. Thankfully our house was separated by About half a mile of inlet from this fire and the Sechelt Fire Department in conjunction with to water bombers and a helicopter did manage to get it under control very quickly.

Since I do their web site, I figured they might like some photos - from the roof I grabbed several using our long lens, but the water bombers were all done by the time I got out the ladder and climbed up there.

So, all in all, a bit of a crazy day with power failures continuing like a yo-yo until late a night.
