Locations are now being plotted!

although there are not too many in my database to plot yet - I've been adding Points of interest along the SALTS offshore route first and hopefully this will give people a bit of a frame of reference - I'm still working out some of the finer points but effectively this is not up and running - scale and grid-lines are next :D

I've been busy in the TRACK-NAV code again - this time there are few visible changes but there are many to come, made possible by wide-reaching new functions in the back-end.

For now, you can click on the vessel's name to get extended information - try this for example: http://www.pawprint.net/sail/tracker/?action=object&toid=1

The maps are also a bit wider to giv better detail.

Coming soon:

I've added a few more goodies to TRACK-NAV:

For starters - the main track-nav page now looks a lot better (especially if you have your screen resolution set below 1024px wide)

The big new one is the chronological log display - try clicking the "View log entries" button for any route to see it in action - this is especially interesting on the historic routes from the Swift (which will get even better as I get more log info from SALTS)

I never noticed since I always turn off my cache to save space - but I'll see if I can add something to the page to prevent caching.

Thanks for the suggestion.

PS: It's nice to know I'm not the only one waiting with baited breath in front of my screen for the latest position to roll in - I'll be on the road tomorrow so I guess I'll have to stop at a net cafe somewhere ;)

Track-Nav Suggestion..

Hi -

Quick suggestion - the map image loads from cache on my browser, changes don't appear unless I remember to hit "refresh"...not a big deal really, but many people might not reload the page "manually"....

Look's like I know what I'll be doing at 3:00PM EST every day for the next 120 days or so...!

Cheers -

Rob

Please help us gather navigation data!

We need your help.

Now that the International Vessel Tracking System (Track-Nav) has reached beta status, we'd like some real data to enter. Anyone that has navigation data for an ocean voyage, please consider sharing it with us.

We are particularly interested in famous voyages like:
- Columbus
- Vancouver
- Cook
- Slocum
- Graham

Though we also would love well-known fictional accounts such as:
- Aubrey/Maturin
- Hornblower

At a minimum, we need a list containing la
